Britain is richer than ever on paper — yet most people feel left out of that growth. While the top 1% of households now hold over 20% of all UK wealth, millions of working and middle-class savers are still parking their money in cash, losing value to inflation every year. In fact, more than 60% of UK household financial wealth remains in cash or bank deposits rather than productive assets such as shares or funds (source: ONS, 2024).
The average person has been getting played, StockBud exists to change that. It’s time for the average person to also play the game. We’re building a mobile app that blends the pull of social media with the power of real investing — turning doom-scrolling into productive scrolling. Our mission is to make investing understandable, social, and habit-forming so that everyday savers can grow wealth over time rather than watch it erode. Through StockBud, users can:
- Track and understand their real portfolios in depth — daily, monthly, and yearly performance, with transparent analytics.
- Follow communities and join discussions around the stocks and industries they care about, just like any social feed.
- Compete and learn through public leaderboards and private leagues with friends, family, or universities, building healthy financial curiosity.
- Stay informed with curated news, alerts, and AI-driven summaries of the companies they follow. By bringing transparency, community, and education together in one place, StockBud helps turn savers into investors — and investors into learners.
- Build influence through Sparks — a transparent, informational metric showing how your ideas and insights inspire others to act. Sparks reward knowledge-sharing, not copy-trading.
The current prototype focuses on the social and analytical side of investing — it does not yet support buying or selling shares. Instead, it allows users to import and track their existing portfolios (for example, from Trading 212), explore market insights, monitor live performance, and engage in transparent, data-driven conversations about the companies they care about.
StockBud Ltd is a UK-registered fintech start-up founded in 2025 by Luke Conlon, with the goal of democratising investing for a generation that scrolls more than it saves.

StockBud is a new kind of finance startup built in Manchester — created by students, for a generation ready to play the game. We’re building a social-investing app that helps ordinary savers turn their curiosity about the markets into lasting financial confidence.
We’re now inviting University of Manchester students to join us in the early stages of our journey. If you study — or have strong interest in — Computer Science, Law, Business, or Finance, and want to contribute to a live fintech project with real momentum, we’d love to hear from you.
